# The Missing Rubies, by Sarah Doudney
This November 1887 Argosy installment continues Doudney's serialized mystery-romance novel. Vordenberg discovers his friend Michael Stavieski dead from heart disease in a Wardour Street room, with a letter detailing the man's final moments. The narrative shifts to Beatrice and Godwin Earle at Ham House, where they celebrate their engagement, secure in Vordenberg's promise to prove Godwin's innocence and clear his name. Mr. Corder has undertaken to make Godwin his heir. Godwin and Beatrice anticipate marriage and a future without scandal. The final chapter opens at Meadow House, where Miss Dorothy Earle receives disturbing news regarding the long-buried affair of the stolen necklace, recognizing that the coming family gathering will reopen old wounds, particularly with the volatile Countess Gradizoff.
