# Within the Maze

This serialized novel, attributed to the author of East Lynne, follows Lucy, Lady Andinnian of Foxwood Court. Chapter XX depicts Lucy returning by train to her home after a flower show, where she encounters a mysterious woman traveling in her carriage. At Foxwood Station, Lucy discovers the stranger is Mrs. Grey, who lives at the Maze—a revelation that deeply disturbs her. The footman's announcement that the waiting carriage belongs to "Lady Andinnian" causes Mrs. Grey visible distress. Troubled and yearning for comfort, Lucy visits her friend Margaret Sumnor, an invalid at the vicarage, where she breaks down in tears over an unspoken sorrow relating to her husband, Sir Karl. Margaret counsels patience and trust in God, cautioning Lucy against separation through a cautionary tale of a woman who separated from her husband and lived to regret it.
