# The Marble-Arch Mystery

Sexton Blake Library No. 148 features "The Marble-Arch Mystery," a detective serial. Jockey Con Battle is kidnapped by two thugs hired by Francis Gulwood before the valuable Gatbury Cup race, where Battle was to ride the temperamental horse Swiftwing. Detective Sexton Blake, his assistant Tinker, and Scotland Yard's Inspector Conover pursue the perpetrators to London, discovering a house where Blake is briefly imprisoned. A trap-staircase nearly kills Blake and Conover during their escape. The investigation reveals that two men murdered victims at Marble Arch to obtain stolen plans, linking the crimes to fugitive Bryden Mitchelmore and the increasingly elusive Gulwood. Young cabman Albert Moy stands accused while Blake works to find the actual culprits and clear him.
