This issue features Rubies, a complete novel by L. Adams Beck about an English farmer from Cornwall drawn into adventure in Burma. The protagonist, Roger Pendarvis, discovers a connection between Burmese jewels and a dark family secret after witnessing a suspicious midnight exchange between a local smuggler and a prominent magistrate.
