New Worlds, Vol. 20, No. 59 (May 1957)

This British science fiction magazine contains five short stories, the conclusion of Kenneth Bulmer's serial "Green Destiny," and feature articles. Lan Wright's "All That Glitters" concerns Johnny Dawson, a liaison officer, sent to coordinate humanitarian relief efforts during an epidemic on the Lutherian home world—a recurring element in Wright's series featuring these aliens. Robert Silverberg contributes "Quick Freeze," while E.R. James and Philip Carver provide "Fourth Species" and "Death of Glass" respectively. John Boland's "The Man from Toombla" and Kenneth Johns's article "Quizzical Glass" round out the issue. The editorial examines European science fiction's growing preference for British stories over American science fiction, attributing this to American SF's loss of "sense of wonder" and arguing British material better serves European readers new to the genre. A profile of prolific young author Robert Silverberg, from New York, notes his 200 published stories since 1954.
