# Mike Shayne Mystery Magazine, July 1959

This issue contains a feature novelet by Brett Halliday, "Death Plays Charade," a mystery involving Miami private investigator Mike Shayne. A mysterious Gypsy clairvoyant named Kara visits Shayne's office with cryptic warnings about a murder involving her husband Voltane, a famous magician performing at the Biscayne Arena charity carnival. When Shayne initially dismisses her, she leaves behind a dollar bill with a message: "YOU HAVE NO CHOICE." Later, Shayne attends the Arena with his secretary Lucy Hamilton to celebrate her birthday, where Voltane is billed as the featured performer—the Gypsy's prediction materializing through circumstance.

The issue also includes a complete short suspense novel, "The Suspicious Bride" by John C. Fleming and Lois Eby, plus five short stories: "Scratch One Mark" by Dan J. Marlowe, "The Defenders" by C.B. Gilford, "The Musical Doll" by Helen Kasson, "A Distinctive Flavor" by Len Guttridge, "Never Turn Your Back" by Larry Holden, and "Double Talk" by Mil Bigsby.
