An apparition in frontier-era deerskin clothing, mocassins, and a prominent coonskin cap suddenly emerges from shadow and fires a rifle at the yacht's cabin window with an accompanying piercing shriek. The figure vanishes mysteriously, leaving no footprints in the sand despite passing through soft ground. When the guards break into the locked steel cabin door, they discover Raymond was never inside—a fortunate circumstance that saves his life, as the bullet's trajectory suggests a fatal hit had been intended.
