El Terror de los Estadios

This issue of the Spanish pulp magazine collection "Doble Juego" features "El Terror de los Estadios" (Terror of the Stadiums) by Joseph Berna. The narrative concerns professional American rugby, centered on a season opening at San Francisco's Titans stadium. The protagonist Chuck Armstrong, a brutally aggressive defender for the New York Buffaloes who earned the nickname "Terror of the Stadiums" through deliberate injury-causing tactics, contrasts with two newly signed players: Rock Mannion, a skilled forward who left the Buffaloes due to Armstrong's unsportsmanlike conduct, and Jerry Holmes, a Black forward from Chicago. Both newcomers share Mannion's philosophy of winning through superior play rather than violence. During their first training session, Mannion and Holmes demonstrate exceptional coordination. After practice, they drive to Holmes's home for lunch, unaware that an unidentified woman in a red Maserati is following them.
