This Spanish-language pulp serial, published by Ediciones Ceres in 1983, follows Arthur Pem, a once-celebrated American writer and sports columnist. Pem won the Pulitzer Prize for his novel The Growth of a Terrorist but subsequently failed to maintain his literary reputation. After a failed marriage to wealthy Grace Broderick, he works as a sports journalist for the Chicago Sun Times, covering hockey, basketball, and tennis with integrity. During a celebratory gathering at the Astoria Hotel following a New York Giants roller hockey championship, the heavily intoxicated Pem marries Bessy Loy, a blonde female sports photographer and fellow reporter, in a drunken ceremony witnessed by two colleagues. Upon waking with no memory of events, Pem attempts to annul the marriage. The ensuing conflict escalates into scandal when Bessy throws objects at him, drawing hotel staff and media attention. His employer fires him over a garbled dictated sports column. Bessy subsequently vanishes, and Pem desperately seeks her whereabouts through mutual acquaintance Nadina Parluzzi.
