Diamond Dick, Jr.—The Boy's Best Weekly, No. 275

This issue of Diamond Dick, Jr.—The Boys' Best Weekly (No. 275, January 18, 1902) features two chapters of an adventure serial. Chapter 131, "Si Goes 'Two on the Red,'" follows Si Hammer, a farm boy from Vermont employed as a "General Trouble Hunter" on the T.N. & P. railroad, who bets with his colleague Two-Spot Peters about the merits of his sweetheart Araminta back home. The argument escalates into a street fight in Ouray, Arizona, where Si accidentally encounters a drunk Apache named Lone Dog and is soundly beaten. Upon returning to the general manager's office, he wears Lone Dog's blanket, which is recognized as part of stolen freight. Chapter 132, "Freight Robbers," reveals an organized ring of thieves operating along the railroad line between Whipsaw and Contention, stealing northbound and southbound shipments worth $500–$1,500 each. Diamond Dick and his associates resolve to capture Lone Dog as their lead suspect.
