Detective Story Magazine, Vol. LVIII, No. 5 (June 23, 1923)

This issue features five serials in various installments, including Johnston McCulley's "The Avenging Twins Try It Again" (part two), Oscar Schisgall's "On His Thirtieth Birthday" (part three), John Hunter's "Brethren of the Shadows" (part four), and Herman Landon's "The Gray Phantom's Madness" (part five). The lead serial is Adele Luehrmann's three-part "The Girl in the Green Kimono," which opens with a man named Seward meeting a woman at the Hillworth apartment house near Grand Central Station, ostensibly to help her reach an ill friend—though her nervous demeanor and insistence on telephoning from a drugstore suggest complications ahead. The issue also contains short stories by Paul Ellsworth Triem, John Jay Chichester, and Frederick C. Davis, plus an article on Portland, Oregon's police force. The following week's serial will be J. S. Fletcher's "The Safety Pin."
