This Spanish-language pulp detective story, translated by Mariano Ferrer, is "The Murder Lives at H.Q." by Vic Peterson (1953). The narrative follows Dudley Kerrigan, a private detective and former Marine boxer operating in Brooklyn, who is approached by Ed Atilano on a bus. Atilano, a muscular bodyguard, cryptically offers Kerrigan substantial payment (100 dollars daily plus 5,000 upon completion) to prevent his mysterious employer, Harold Michael, from dying. The job cannot involve police due to sensitive circumstances. A meeting is arranged for 7 PM at Queens Bridge in a blue Dodge. Meanwhile, Atilano returns to Michael's Richmond estate, discovering the security system disabled, his ex-cop guard Slim O'Grady murdered with blunt-force trauma, and the house silent—implying Michael may also be dead.
