# "Los muertos viajan" (The Dead Travel)

He reconnects with Lea Bates, an attractive neighbor employed at the nightclub "Samoa," and learns of troubling developments: his newspaper Leader has been secretly acquired by Tony Lilac, a criminal operative involved in forging documents, currency smuggling, and human trafficking in postwar Germany. Marty's recent articles exposing Lilac were suppressed; senior staff have resigned in protest. Editor Crockett, now elderly and financially desperate, begs Marty to stay despite the ethical compromise. Additionally, Lea reveals that her friend Rosanna has been trapped in drug addiction and exploitation by "Dandy" Tolliver, who operates under Lilac's protection. Marty resolves to investigate both situations despite the professional and personal dangers ahead.
