Deadwood Dick Library No. 29: The Silent Tongues

This issue of The Dick Turpin Library contains "The Silent Tongues," a Western adventure story. The narrative follows a heavily laden stage coach traveling through Colorado's San Juan canyon, carrying passengers and treasure. Among those aboard are an Ohio politician (Hon. Ray Vernon), a clergyman and his daughter, bordermen including the boisterous "Beautiful Bill," and a mysterious blonde man in green goggles traveling with a veiled woman and considerable gold.

The Silent Tongues—masked road agents known for their silence—ambush the stage. The blonde stranger, identifying himself as "Blonde Bill," rallies the defenders in a firefight. During the battle, the veiled woman is fatally wounded. After the outlaws mysteriously retreat, Blonde Bill grieves beside her body. A passenger called "Rosebud Rob" assists him in recovering her corpse. The stage prepares to continue its journey while Blonde Bill plans to bury the woman.
