# Museum Catalog Note

New Palaces (April 1937, Vol. 16, No. 1) is an aviation pulp magazine featuring war and air adventure fiction. The main serial, "Death Paints the Skies" by William O'Sullivan, follows Jim Clancy, a former New York detective turned fighter pilot, arriving at the Eighty-Eighth Pursuit Squadron on the Marne Front during World War I. Clancy's background in law enforcement makes him suspicious when tension grips the squadron following recent German air raids and bombardments. The issue also includes "Vulture's Brand" by Robert J. Hogan, "The Sky Is the Limit" by Harold F. Cruickshank, "Abled Aces" by Robert Sidney Bowen, "Fokker Fate" by Darrell Jordan, and "Blood for Glory" by Joe Gregg. Supporting features include technical articles on aircraft and a readers' column titled "The Hot Air Club."
