During their drive, Janet reveals Mac Laglen's nickname: "the Perfidious One," earned through his disturbing gaze and cruel behavior toward company associates at TV Supplies Enterprises. She recounts his sexual harassment and psychological torment, including bringing a German Shepherd to the office with predatory intent. Janet remained employed despite this abuse for undisclosed personal reasons. As they enter the city, Max learns Mac Laglen died of a heart attack. The chapter concludes with the ominous statement: "He was dead."
