El precio del miedo (The Price of Fear) by Ada Coretti, issue #221 in Editorial Bruguera's Selección Terror series (May 1977), is a supernatural horror novella. Nurse Lucille arrives in the small seaside town of Meysstton to work for Dr. Taylor. While driving, she witnesses a young man dive into the ocean and fail to surface. When she attempts a rescue dive, she discovers him alive on the bottom, moving and smiling despite ten minutes underwater without equipment. He attacks her sexually before being stabbed eight times by another underwater figure. Lucille escapes and reports the incident to Dr. Taylor, who reveals the man is real—he killed a local girl named Julie the previous year, who was found drowned with eight knife wounds and naked on the beach. Detective Lewis Payne, accompanying Lucille, volunteers to investigate the mysterious murders plaguing the town. The narrative establishes a pattern of supernatural or inexplicable killings connected to this impossible underwater assailant.
