# Black Shadows
A Magazine of Mystery, Romance and Adventure, September 1920, Vol. 1, No. 6
This issue contains thirteen stories spanning mystery, crime, and adventure. The featured novelette is "Black Shadows" by J. C. Kofoed, a locked-room murder mystery. When wealthy Strickland Guerney is found dead in his study—the door locked from within—police initially rule it suicide: a revolver lies near his hand, and a key grips his fingers. But young newspaper reporter Johnny Suggs observes that a left-handed man wrote a letter on Guerney's desk that day, yet the gun lies on the suicide victim's right side. Suggs theorizes murder, not suicide, and resolves to find the killer in what appears an impossible crime.
Additional stories include "Fingers from the Grave" by Edwin Carty Ranck and "The Deviltry of Dr. Waugh" by Christopher B. Booth, along with contributions from Ward Sterling, Harry C. Hervey Jr., and others. A book review column by Captain Frank Cunningham concludes the issue.
