Whitfield's "Red Wings" depicts a confrontation between a bandit leader and a federal operative along the border. Erle Stanley Gardner's "The Devil's Deputy" features Black Barr in a western tale where law and justice operate through gunplay.

"An Hour Before Dawn" by Earl W. and Marion Scott concerns an underworld fugitive seeking vengeance after escape. Henry Wallace Phillips provides "The Wooing of Shah-Layah," a western set in clear sunshine. Erika Zasrow's "A Moll and Her Man" follows an underworld woman's machinations. Carroll John Daly's "The Last Chance" features recurring detective Race Williams confronting a criminal organization called The Hidden Hand. Francis W. Hilton's "The Kid Wrangler" and Craig Donaldson's "Crooks in Arcady" complete the issue's action-oriented content.
