# Catalog Note
This issue contains three Beadle and Adams publications from 1872-1876. The Dime Centennial Speaker (No. 18) collects patriotic orations and speeches by American statesmen, poets, and divines on themes of liberty, union, and independence—including addresses on the Declaration, Washington, Bunker Hill, and Revolutionary heroes. The Dime Centennial Songster (No. 34) presents Revolutionary ballads and national songs appropriate to the Centennial year, featuring pieces like "The Star-Spangled Banner," "Yankee Doodle," and songs celebrating American independence. A biography of George Washington by C.H.H. Pannell traces his life from youth through his presidency. The Dime Base-Ball Player for 1876, edited by Henry Chadwick, contains professional club records for 1875, playing instructions, and association rules. The primary narrative is The Wolf-Queen; or, The Giant Hermit of the Scioto by Captain Charles Howard, a frontier adventure set in 1804 Ohio featuring Mayne Fairfax, a young Virginian who encounters the Wolf-Queen—a tall, white, mentally unstable woman who commands trained wolves—on the Scioto River and is rescued by Bill Hewitt, a giant backwoods hermit.
