# Catalog Note

The Lone Indian; or The Renegade's Prisoner by Capt. Chas. Howard is a frontier adventure tale set in Canadian wilderness. Two hunters—Morgan Darrell, a young American tracker, and Gottlieb Von Klopt, a portly German adventurer—journey through Wyandot territory searching for Isora Winters, a fair-haired girl abducted three years prior by a vengeful Frenchman named Louis La Gorreaux. During their quest, they discover Weptonomah, a starving Wyandot chief and outlaw among his own people, exiled after striking a medicine man named Lingaro. Darrell nurses the rheumatic chief back to health, and Weptonomah promises aid. The narrative combines wilderness survival, frontier pursuit, and potential alliance between the young hunter and the disgraced Indian leader, with the recovery of the kidnapped girl as the driving objective.
