The Champion Texan Rider: Red Buffalo and the Hunter Hercules
By Harry St. George
This installment opens with Chauncy Branrare, a wealthy New Yorker and experienced hunter, riding alone across the Texas prairie searching for his uncle's missing adopted son. He rescues Donna Iola, a half-American, half-Mexican girl, from a panther attack. She reveals she escaped from Comanche captors, including the chief Red Buffalo, after drugging her guard and stealing a mustang. As Chauncy escorts Donna homeward, Comanches track them down. Unable to flee on the exhausted mustang, Chauncy surrenders his superior horse to Donna, allowing her to escape while he draws the pursuing warriors away on the failing mount. The narrative ends as bullets follow Chauncy toward a distant grove of trees.
