The Cave Treasure, by Paul Bibbs, is a serialized adventure narrative set in 1853 Port au Prince, Haiti. The story follows Captain Jacques Montbars, a sea-captain with romantic entanglements and possible pirate connections, and Pierre "The Savage," a young Frenchman who has obtained half of a cryptic letter from James Lorraine revealing the location of buried treasure—diamonds and gold worth fifty thousand dollars hidden near the "Robber's Cave." Meanwhile, Fred Lorraine, son of the late James, also seeks the treasure and competes for the affections of Therese Hautville, the beautiful daughter of a wealthy merchant, whom Montbars loves. The plot thickens when Montbars discovers Fred's presence at Therese's residence, and a storm forces two mysterious travelers—a man and a young woman—to seek shelter at the Hautville home.
