This issue of Beadle's Weekly presents "Fred, the Sport, in Brimstone Bar Camp; or, The Boston Wrestler's Confederate" by Ed. L. Wheeler, author of the Deadwood Dick series. The adventure opens in the rough mining camp of Brimstone Bar, Idaho, at the Eldorado saloon. A mysterious young female gambler named Goldie Glenn, modest in appearance but sharp-witted, confronts a group of miners led by Jack Homer, who demand information she refuses to provide. An educated Easterner named Joe Chapman, a Boston wrestler, intervenes on her behalf. When Homer boasts of his wrestling prowess, Chapman challenges him to a match for one thousand dollars. Chapman decisively defeats Homer in three consecutive falls, earning the wager. Enraged miners, calling themselves the "Rope and Limb Boys," subsequently attempt to extort the winnings from Chapman, who refuses and threatens violent resistance.
