This issue of Beadle and Adams' weekly contains "Arizona Alf, the Miner: Little Snap Shot's Luck" by T. C. Harbaugh. The Western story follows Arizona Alf, a sixty-year-old border miner and Indian fighter, who discovers a murdered man among his party returning from an unsuccessful Apache pursuit in the Arizona mountains. Suspecting Spanish Jack, Alf departs alone to find the killer. Meanwhile, Thunder Sam visits Blossom, Alf's sheltered ward, where they encounter Snap Shot, a young horse-hunter pursued by Apaches. Snap Shot's horse dies defending him, but Blossom's rifle skills repel the raiders. Snap Shot reveals his quest: recovering "White Rocket," a stolen white horse taken by Red Heart's Apache band, and avenging the raid. Thunder Sam, jealously protective of Blossom, grows hostile toward the youth. The narrative interweaves frontier violence, mysterious murder, and romantic tension.
