Kid-Glove Kris, the Sport: Detective Dave's Full Flush. A Romance of the Pledged Pards of Hard-Pan Camp (Beadle and Adams, August 25, 1897), by J. C. Cowdrick. This Western serial follows the arrest of a suspected murderer en route between mining towns. Kid-Glove Kris, a professional gambler known for wearing kid gloves while playing cards, is detained for allegedly murdering Thomas Kenton in Hard Pan. Though Kris protests his innocence and refuses to explain his whereabouts, a stage driver defends him as logical—a fugitive wouldn't return to the region. Complicating matters, Kris's accuser is revealed to be Kenton's previously unmentioned young widow. Myra Kenton, the dead man's daughter, boards the stage en route to Hard Pan, determined to prevent a lynching and secure a fair trial for the prisoner despite community suspicions and evidence of a prior quarrel between Kris and her father.
