# Museum Catalog Note
The Marauder of the Mimbres by William G. Patten features two storylines. The main narrative begins in Silver City during an Apache uprising led by Geronimo, where settlers brace for attack. A mysterious outlaw known as Red Hand, leader of a gang operating from the Mimbres Mountains, commits robberies across ranches in New Mexico, Arizona, and Mexico. A secondary encounter occurs when two cowboys—Hurricane Hal (dark-eyed) and Maverick Mat (blonde)—confront an arrogant young cavalry lieutenant named Cranston in the town street, refusing to yield to his saber-drawn threats; other cowboys intervene and the outnumbered officer retreats. The narrative also introduces Old True Blue, a trapper and scout, and Zeb Horn, a veteran miner, who discuss the Indian danger and Zeb's family in Eden Pocket, including his daughter Kate, whom he hopes to educate before marriage.
