"The Keepers of the Seals: A Romance of Glory Flat and Beyond," by Wm. R. Eyster. A Western holdupstory featuring rival road-agents and mysterious passengers. Captain Flash leads an outlaw gang who stops a coach between Red Bend and Glory Flat, intending to rob a treasure box and locate a wealthy target named Cyrus Dabney. Two identical-looking men emerge from the coach, causing confusion—the driver insists neither boarded at Red Bend. One identifies himself as Captain Jinks, chief of the "Horse Marines," also seeking Dabney; the other claims to be the real Captain Jinks pursuing a lady, and accuses the first of being a detective posing under his name. The two challenge each other to a gunfight, turning the tables on Captain Flash by holding him at gunpoint while their dispute unfolds, leaving him trapped between their coordinated firearms.
