The Fool from Way Back, by W. R. Eyster, is a Western adventure serial occupying this issue. Heiress Theodosia Lande resolves to rescue her estranged brother Rolland from a mining settlement called Way Back, where he has lived for years after fleeing their uncle's household. Accompanied by friend Serena Wild, she hires a detective guide—unexpectedly a woman, Millie Vandeleur—to locate him. Vandeleur mentions knowing Pinnacle Pete, a prominent miner and possible detective in the region. The narrative shifts to reveal a criminal conspiracy: four hardened men including "Specter Sam" and "Revolver Rube" meet secretly to discuss plans involving the heiress. An older man arrives, revealed as their leader, confirming they are all interested in the same objective—the presence of the wealthy young woman now entering their territory. The story suggests danger ahead for Miss Lande's expedition.
