· October 28, 1885

This issue features "The Dynamite League" by George Henry Morse, a thriller serialized across two chapters. In Chapter I, "The Train-Wreckers," a telegram operator named Willis Marvin at Brocton station is drugged with a doctored cigar by a well-dressed stranger named Torrance. Marvin awakens to discover train-wreckers assembling obstructions on a bridge to derail the Philadelphia mail train. Assaulted by a man named Dayton, Marvin perseveres to warn the train and creates a signal fire that stops it moments before disaster. Chapter II, "A Deepening Mystery," reveals Marvin meets a beautiful young woman passenger who claims the wreck was directed against her. Marvin counters that the wreckers target him specifically—they belong to a "league of assassins" responsible for his father Robert Marvin's disappearance six months prior and have systematically hounded him from successive employments.
