# Tiger Dick, the Man of the Iron Heart

Featured serial: "Tiger Dick, the Man of the Iron Heart; or, The Dumb Bandit" by Philip S. Warne, an adventure tale set at Freeze-out Camp. Tiger Dick, a prisoner being transported to execution under guard of Sheriff Jim Farnsworth and Deputy Bragg, seizes an opportunity during the scorching midday ride. While his captors drowse, the handcuffed Tiger grabs Deputy Bragg's revolver and shoots both lawmen fatally. He coerces the nervous driver Comanchee Bob into retrieving the keys to his manacles, then shoots the driver as well. Pursued by mounted men, Tiger Dick escapes on horseback, demonstrating coolness and marksmanship despite his wounds and manacles. The narrative emphasizes his demonic composure and gambling-table nerve as he flees into rocky terrain.
