The Kid Glove Miner: A Romance of the Gold Mines by Col. Prentiss Ingraham is a Western adventure serial. An Eastern gentleman arrives in the mining region seeking his sister who eloped with a miner named Elegant Ed. He hires guide Lucky Pete, who is shot by unknown assailant—Pete believes the shooter resembled his employer. Pete dies after passing a wallet containing twenty thousand dollars to the stranger, entrusting him to deliver it to his mother. The gentleman rides to Elegant Ed's remote cabin seeking the "Magic Doctor" for help. Minutes later, he emerges with a blood-stained knife. Miners led by Brick Bender arrive, discovering Elegant Ed and his beautiful young wife dead inside. The stranger is arrested, charged with three murders: Lucky Pete, Elegant Ed (shot), and Ed's wife (stabbed). Evidence against him includes the murder weapon and Pete's stolen money found on his person.
