# One-Eyed Trapper; or, The Maid of the Cliff

This installment of Beadle and Adams's dime novel series features "The One-Eyed Trapper" by Capt. Comstock, an adventure tale set in the Ozark Mountains. The protagonist, Guy Winton, known as Red Claw for his exceptional single-eye marksmanship, is a skilled frontier hunter who rescues a foundling half-Indian boy named Chick years earlier. While ascending a mountain to retrieve a bear carcass, the two witness an exceptionally beautiful Indian girl named Winnihah escape pursuers by leaping a dangerous ravine, leaving behind an ornamental moccasin. When a warrior named Omeeno, claiming Winnihah loves him, arrives at Red Claw's cabin demanding the moccasin's return, tensions escalate. The narrative combines frontier action with hints of romantic conflict over Winnihah's affections. Text becomes partially garbled near the chapter's conclusion.
