# Catalog Note

"Davy Doon's Big Bounce; or, Nickel Nell, The Boy Spotter's Mascot" by T. C. Harbaugh is a detective mystery serialized in this 1894 Beadle and Adams dime novel. Davy Doon, a shrewd young New York street character, helps the destitute Mrs. Lane locate Hiram Honeybee, a missing witness whose testimony could overturn a fraudulent will that cheated her grand-niece of an inheritance. When Nickel Nell, a girl who sells papers, delivers Davy's introduction letter to lawyer Bolivar Brass seeking work, she discovers documents bearing Honeybee's name—suggesting Brass's involvement in the fraud. The story develops as Mrs. Lane tracks the suspect "Van Kinder" through city streets and narrowly escapes being trampled by an express wagon. Nell and Mrs. Lane reunite at Davy's lodging, ready to pursue the investigation.
