# Catalog Description
Buck Buckram; or, Bess, the Female Trapper by Captain J. F. C. Adams is a frontier adventure tale serialized in Beadle's Half-Dime Library (Vol. IV, No. 98). Two experienced trappers—Buck Buckram and Dick Havens—discover their younger companion Dick Inglis murdered and staged as a decoy by Apaches near their Colorado River trapping camp. After conducting a careful reconnaissance, they bury Inglis in the deep stream, weighted by stone. Deciding to remain through trapping season despite the danger, the men continue their work, though they later detect signs of Apache surveillance around their bark-and-log lodge. Increasingly concerned, Buckram orders Havens to retrieve their hidden horses while he prepares their accumulated pelts for transport, planning to relocate to safer grounds.
