Beadle's Half Dime Library No. 806

· January 3, 1893

This issue of Beadle and Adams contains "The Bond of Blood," a Western serial by William G. Patten (author of the "Violet Vane" series). The story follows Silver Spur Steve Norman, a mysterious young cowboy recovering from consumption at Rainbow Ranch. When Steve announces his departure, ranch-owner Warren Milton attempts to increase his salary, but Steve refuses, revealing he must leave for undisclosed personal reasons. Steve's hesitation concerns Julia Ruthven, a visiting woman he knew previously and loves, though he believes her above his station. After Milton witnesses Steve kissing Iva's hand—the rancher's eighteen-year-old daughter—he orders Steve's immediate departure. Riding away, Steve encounters Iva's runaway horse and discovers Julia trapped in a tree by a mad bull. He systematically shoots the animal, blinding and killing it, rescuing Julia before riding on.
