# Red Notch Camp

This issue contains a western serial "Red Notch Camp" by Oll Coomes, author of "Highland Harry" and other tales. The story opens in a declining mining camp in Idaho's Pan Handle, centered on The Fodder Corral, a hotel, saloon, and gambling house operated by Hank Kline and his beautiful, accomplished but heartless daughter Roxana. Young hunter Harry West arrives ostensibly for recreation, but reveals to his expected associate, the renowned bear-hunter Coeur D'Alene Dan, that he is actually a Secret Service detective investigating opium smuggling from British America. An English lord, Lord John Joseph Keswick, also arrives with his valet. The narrative emphasizes frontier adventure, romantic complications between West and Roxana, and the setup for detective work involving contraband goods.
