"The Cruise of the Sea Wolf" by Colonel Prentiss Ingraham is a maritime adventure serialized in this dime library issue. The narrative opens with two fugitives escaping by sloop after a nighttime theft and killing. Brentford, the helmsman, refuses the boatswain's demand to return for additional robbery; during their violent confrontation, Brentford throws the boatswain overboard. The boatswain survives and desperately swims toward shore. Young Enoch Blanchard, sailing home alone, rescues the drowning man and brings him to his family's coastal cottage. There Captain Blanchard, his wife Bessie, and daughter Lulu discover the rescued man is Oliver Eustace, a figure from their past whom they had previously known. The story combines shipboard intrigue, murder, survival, and a fateful reunion amid maritime peril.
