Beadle's Half Dime Library No. 725

Β· June 16, 1891

This issue of Beadle and Adams (June 16, 1891) contains "Daring Dick, Pawnee Bill's Pard" by Colonel Prentiss Ingraham, a companion story to "Pawnee Bill's Pledge." The narrative follows Gabriella Garcia, an eighteen-year-old Mexican heiress who loves Major Andrea Bonodel, a disgraced cavalry officer sentenced to death for conspiracy. Gabriella orchestrates his prison escape by disguising herself as a priest and arranging fresh horses along the route to the Rio Grande. After his getaway, Andrea becomes an outlaw chief ("Don Desperado") on the border. Six months later, he sends Gabriella a coded letter proposing marriage and requesting she join him at a hacienda for a wedding ceremony. The narrative concludes with Gabriella resolving to honor her pledge and meet her lover.
