# Catalog Description
The Wolf in the Fold by Charles Morris, from the July 30, 1889 issue of a Beadle and Adams dime novel publication. The narrative opens with the mysterious murder of John Huntly, a respected Arkansas citizen found dead at the foot of his stairway with a knife wound. An older man named Jake Bruce is arrested on suspicion but provides an alibi through witnesses—he was at a card game and drunk. Tom Bruce, Jake's intelligent nineteen-year-old son, reveals he saw his father near the murder scene early that morning, though he withholds this information from authorities to protect him. A second chapter depicts the investigation by Colonel Levi Brown and other townspeople examining evidence at Huntly's house, with bloody wall spots suggesting the murder occurred at the staircase's top before the body was thrown down.
