Tangled Trails in Texas. By Col. Prentiss Ingraham. A serialized romance featuring brothers George Powell ("Night Hawk") and William Powell ("Broncho Bill"), Texas plainsmen traveling with a Black servant named Scraps and a Comanche Indian named Red Wolf.

In New York, George overhears a hotel conversation: a woman named Clio, a singer, refuses reconciliation with her estranged husband, accusing him of murdering her father. Months later, the brothers and their companions journey to a haunted Spanish Mission ruin on a Texas prairie hill. Scraps fears the spirits of the hundred-plus massacre victims buried there. Approaching at dusk, they encounter a white-robed phantom figure in the trail that calls out warnings. Night Hawk orders Broncho Bill to lasso rather than shoot the mysterious apparition as it flees into the timber.
