# Catalog Note
"How He Lived for Honor" by Charles Morris appears in this November 1886 issue of Beadle and Adams' weekly publication. The serial concerns Dick Racket, a dissolute young gentleman who has squandered his fifty-thousand-dollar fortune through five years of reckless living with disreputable associates. At a farewell feast, he announces he has exhausted his wealth and recruits contributions from his former friends for a western venture. An urgent visit from his servant Jerry interrupts the gathering with mysterious news involving Dick's uncle in apparent danger. Dick races through a stormy night on horseback toward a nearby quarry where his uncle has been found nearly dead after being flung into it. The narrative combines elements of melodrama and adventure as Dick pursues an urgent family crisis, abandoning his dissolute life.
