"Deadwood Dick Junior's Racket at Claim No. 10" by Edward L. Wheeler, serialized in this June 2, 1886 issue of Beadle and Adams' weekly publication.

The story follows two passengers aboard an Arizona stagecoach: Bartley Brewster, a troubled Eastern gentleman, and Philo Fly of Phenix, a young Western man of mysterious business. The stage driver warns them against stopping at the notorious Claim 10 mining camp, controlled by the ruthless road-agent Red Ruthven and his ally Black Mag, proprietor of the only hotel. Despite warnings, both men are headed there. En route, Brewster is shot through the coach window by an assailant he identifies as his enemy Ezra Athol. Philo carries the wounded Brewster into Black Mag's "Roaring Bull Hotel," a large ramshackle building populated by rough characters. Brewster entrusts his valuables to Philo before an unknown visitor arrives demanding entry.
