# Kid-Glove Kit

This Beadle and Adams dime novel presents the opening chapters of an action melodrama set in the Rocky Mountains. The story begins with the murder of a young woman's father by a gang of assassins led by a captain. The girl escapes before Hercules, a massive, one-eyed mine bully, can capture her. She is rescued by "Kid-Glove Kit," an elegantly dressed twenty-two-year-old youth wearing lavender gloves and a velvet suit, who strikes down Hercules with a single blow. The girl discovers her father's corpse and swears vengeance on his murderers using a blood-stained lavender glove as her oath-token. In the subsequent chapter, Kit and Hercules prepare for hand-to-hand combat in darkness after Kit surrenders his weapons to ensure fair combat, while the girl urges escape.
