Beadle's Dime Novels No. 305: The Girl Scout

· April 7, 1874

This issue of Beadle's Dime Novels (No. 305) contains two serials. The main feature is "Caribou Zip; or, The Wounded Brothers," by Joseph E. Badger Jr., set during Pontiac's War. It follows scout Caribou Zip and Joseph Brandt (later a Six Nations chief) as rivals in love and adventure during the fall of Michilimackinack, with a cast including the beautiful settler's daughter Cecile and Ottawa maiden Kalne.

The second serial, "The Girl Trailer; or, The Island League," by W. J. Hamilton, is set on Lake Superior in Minnesota. It opens with three men—Frenchman Gaston Foix, half-breed Black Wolf, and frontiersman Buck Bracer—swearing a blood oath to protect a secret discovered on a remote island. The narrative follows conflicts involving these men, guide Jess Turner, and a young hunter named Wallace Burton, with tension escalating toward a confrontation at Turner's cabin. The OCR becomes unclear at the ending.
