In this frontier tale, young physician Harry Sanderson, a New York native searching for his missing father, encounters two dangerous border ruffians attempting robbery on a forest road. After driving them off with his revolver and rifle, Sanderson discovers a beautiful young woman senseless beneath a lightning-struck pine tree during a violent storm. Despite her mysterious warnings that knowing her would bring him danger, he rescues her, shelters her beneath a rocky outcropping, and revives her. During their darkness-shrouded conversation, she reveals nothing of her identity while urging him to abandon the region entirely, suggesting she is implicated in something perilous. Sanderson refuses, determined to continue his search for his father.
