Authentic Science Fiction Monthly, No. 74

· November 1956

Authentic Science Fiction no. 74 (November 1956) contains one novelette, five short stories, and non-fiction features. J. T. McIntosh's "Tradition" opens the issue. Short stories include Robert Presslie's "Lest We Forget," H. Philip Stratford's "Lucky Number," Philip E. High's "A Schoolroom for the Teacher," H. L Gold's "The Man with English," and an untitled work by M. Ashcroft called "Blight." Non-fiction features include Editor E. C. Tubb's discussion of intelligence measurement and its cultural relativity; Kenneth Johns's "Evolution of Man—Part 2"; Walter G. Speirs's "Radio Astronomy"; and book reviews and reader discussions. The incomplete Gold story excerpt depicts security-state intrigue: Fred Yendle, a man destroyed by earlier political associations, arrives in Alamushta with a tape recorder and is arrested by Security agents. Doctor John Evans, an interrogation specialist, is summoned to extract information, suggesting the story concerns Cold War espionage and torture.
