Authentic Science Fiction Monthly, Issue 29

· 1953

This is the first issue of Authentic Science Fiction Monthly, a British science fiction periodical edited by H.J. Campbell. The magazine features William F. Temple's novel "Immortal's Playthings," depicting a spacecraft's approach to Venus under extreme solar radiation and instrument-dependent guidance as it prepares to penetrate the planet's impenetrable cloud layer. Ray Bradbury contributes the short story "Welcome, Brothers!" Arthur C. Clarke provides a guest article. S.J. Bounds offers the serial "Frontier Legion." Additional content includes an American Commentary section, science fiction handbook material, reviews, news, and the magazine's regular letters column ("Projectiles"). The issue also includes advertisements, notably for "Joan the Wad," a marketed Cornish piskeyfolk charm claiming to bring luck.
