# Astounding Science-Fiction, August 1944
This issue features three science-fiction novelettes and three short stories. "Latent Image" by Wesley Long concerns John McBride, stationed at the Plutonian Lens station between Sol and Pluto, who must return urgently to his wife Enid following her accidental fall. With commercial ships unavailable, he encounters Steve Hammond's experimental spaceship, the Haywire Queen, disabled by damage to its alphatron device during high-frequency spectral experiments. McBride proposes an improvised solution using magnetogravitic phenomena and the ship's E-grav field coil to repair the drive. Other novelettes listed include "Cuckoo" by P. Schuyler Miller and "City" by Clifford D. Simak. Short stories include "The Yehudi Principle" by Fredric Brown, "House of Tomorrow" by Roby Wentz, and "Environment" by Chester S. Geier.
