Astounding Science Fiction, November 1953 (British Edition)
This issue features "...And a Star to Steer Her By" by Lee Correy, a novelette about Rod Garver, a seasoned jetman who lost his left arm and receives a sophisticated mechanical replacement. Unable to find work on Mars due to his disability, Garver haunts the League of Free Traders club until Captain Vanderhoff hires him as chief jetman aboard the aging S.S. Fafnir—a German-built Ring Class freighter—bound for Earth. The story opens Garver's path home after fifteen years in space.
The issue also includes short fiction: "Quiz Game" by Frank M. Robinson, "Impostor" by Philip K. Dick, and "The Cog" by Charles E. Fritch, along with articles by Wallace West and Hal Clement. The serial "Mission of Gravity" by Hal Clement continues (Part Three of Four). Cover illustration by Correy.
